If your house is anything like mine used to be then it's costing you dearly in wasted energy!
The kids have left a TV on in every room, a couple of computers are humming away day and night, the bathroom lights burn brightly day and night and why do we have to have an endless array of games consoles left on all the time!
Individually these things may only waste a tiny amount of energy but the simple truth is that it all adds up. You can waste a frightening amount of energy (that you've paid for!) by just being careless.
So, if you're ready to take on a new greener way of life then your first call must be to reduce and save the energy that you're using now.
It's easy enough to do, just take a look around your home and see what you can turn off and what other ways you can save the energy you already have.
6 Ways to Save Electricity
- Turn off ALL unused electrical equipment.
- Don't leave appliances on standby if you can help it, turn them off at the socket.
- Unplug unused phone chargers and any other unused battery chargers.
- Use low energy light bulbs wherever you can around the home or office.
- Use a power monitor to keep and eye on what you are using.
- Only boil enough water as you need when using a kettle.
8 Ways to Avoid Wasting Energy You Have Already Paid For!
- Lag your roof space with insulating material to prevent heat loss.
- Lag all hot water storage tanks to prevent heat loss.
- Fit every window with a double or triple glazed window unit to eliminate unnecessary draughts.
- Install cavity wall insulation.
- Install a waste water heat recovery system.
- Seal unnecessary gaps in doors and window frames (DO NOT seal up air vents and air bricks!!)
- Have a quick shower instead of a bath.
- Use a shower timer to remind you to have a quick shower not a long one!
